Learn scuba diving - Free online learning

Discover scuba diving with the beginner course named "10m Diver" and then, you may learn more with the other courses.

Once you know the theoretical part, any diving instructor in the world can teach you the wetted part.
The IFDI courses conform to the international ISO standards requirements which are worldwidely recognized.

Reading a text consumes much less data and energy than watching a video.
By reading the courses of IFDI, you contribute to a better environment.

Summary of the underwater skills and ISO references:

A 10m Diver

can comfortably do:

° Basic buoyancy control.

° Full emptying of the mask.

° The regulator recovery & emptying.

° Breathing on an alternate air source.

+ Has the required knowledge for diving at 10m.

& Has a minimum of 2 logged training dives in open water with an instructor.

A supervised diver.
(ISO 24801-1)

A 20m Diver

can comfortably do:

Like a 10m diver.

+ Perfect buoyancy control.

+ Remove the mask, swim, put it back & emptying.

+ Remove and put back the scuba tank & weight belt.

+ Has the required knowledge for diving at 20m.

& Has a minimum of 4 logged training dives in open water with an instructor.

Autonomous diver.

(Max: 20m)

A 30m Diver

can comfortably do:

Like a 20m diver.

+ Can help another diver.

+ Has good skills in underwater orientation.

+ Has experience in various diving conditions.

+ Has the required knowledge for diving at 30m.

& Has a minimum of 10 logged training dives in open water with an instructor.

Autonomous diver.

(Max: 30m)

A 40m Diver

can comfortably do:

Like a 30m diver.

+ Can rescue another diver.

+ Has a perfect mastering of the body & a calm breathing.

+ Is aware of the other divers & his/her own limit.

+ Has the required knowledge for diving at 40m.

& Has a minimum of 20 logged training dives in open water with an instructor.

Autonomous diver.

(Max: 40m)

A Nitrox Diver is a 20m diver (or more) who has the required knowledge for diving with enriched air. (ISO 11107)

A diving guide must:

Be physically fit (medical check) and be 18 years old or more.

Be qualified and certified in first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Be able to rescue a diver in all potential cases and be familiar with all possible emergency procedures.

Have a minimum of 60 logged dives in open water. 40 of these dives must be done after the 20m Diver certification or equivalent level to ISO 24801-2. 30 of these dives should be done as much as possible in many different specific environment.

Demonstrate to the instructor his or her perfect aptitude in safely guiding other scuba divers.

Be able to perform all the scuba diving exercises as good as an instructor.

Have a theoretical knowledge as good as an instructor.

Important note: The above information summarize the essential requirements for the IFDI courses. As explained in the IFDI courses, there's a real difference between a dive at a depth of 20 meters or 40 meters. Therefore, IFDI considers safer to divide the ISO level (autonomous diver) into 3 categories: 20, 30 and 40 meters. The above mentioned depths are approximate values and should not be considered as strict values.
